Fealty Ceremony for taking a liegeman/woman

<Name of candidate>

Siobhan: I am Siobhan Medhbh O'Roarke, Taoiseach (Tay-sack) of Teaghlach Léaró Dóchais, (TAY-loK lay-AR-oh DOE-chas,) which is the The Ray of Hope. As a peer of the Society, it is my joy and my duty to pass along my knowledge and skills, and to foster and encourage those with talent. To this end, I would take <Name of candidate> of <group,location> as my liege{man|woman}, to encourage his|her skills in the arts and in service to the people of the Known World, and in all other talents I have to share. Do you,<Name>, wish to take on the responsibilities as well as the rights that come with this bond?

Siobhan: Then, <Name>, before these witnesses swear your oath. <Candidate kneels>

<Name>: I, <Name of candidate>, [in the presence of my {champion|consort} <champion's name>,] and these other witnesses, swear that with this oath I am become liege{man|woman} to you, Siobhan Medhbh O'Roarke of Teaghlach Léaró Dóchais (TAY-loK lay-AR-oh DOE-Kas, "House of the Ray of Hope"), whose symbol is the cinquefoil. I hereby swear myself to your service, saving only those responsibilities which I bear to my consort, <name>, [and to my Household, or to the crown,] as we have discussed. As your sworn woman I promise to study and faithfully apply myself to the development of my skills, in service, and in all the courtly arts. I further pledge to defend you and your manors and household in peace and in war, [saving what duties I bear to the Crown of ]. May all strength fail and the world turn against me if I break this solemn oath.

As token of this service I will come to you at Twelfth Night and at May Day with a report of my activities and the products of my labors.

Siobhan: I Siobhan Medhbh O'Roarke, Dame of the Pelican and of the Laurel, out of friendship, fidelity, and fealty, swear before these witnesses to teach and encourage you, to listen and to learn from you, and to support you in your quest for knowledge. I further swear to protect and to foster you as a my liege{man|woman}, aid you in your time of need, and pursue justice in your causes to the highest levels. I pledge to reward your fealty with love, loyalty with honor, and oath-breaking with vengeance. May all strength fail and the world turn against me if I break this solemn oath.


In return for your service I will owe to you once yearly a new suit of clothing, the hospitality of my table at any time that you or your family might call upon it, and two shillings payable at Twelfth Night and at May Day. This contract shall bind us both for a year and a day, at which time either may renew the oath or quit this bond without prejudice.

You who are our witnesses, do you affirm this bond that we have made?
